Announcements on your course page

18 July 2024

Announcements via your Akoraka | Learn course page are an important tool to use to increase student engagement.

Every course has an announcements forum that sits in the Hai Whakamahuki | Welcome section and is linked to the Latest Announcements block on the right-hand side.

When you post messages to the announcements forum, the message will be emailed to students and will show in the Latest Announcements block. However, this will only happen if your announcements forum is visible.

Messages posted to the Announcements forum will be emailed to students 30 minutes after posting unless the check box "Send forum post notifications with no editing-time delay" is checked.

See our previous tip Use announcements to increase student engagement for ideas on what and when to post to your Announcements forum.

Remember, the Announcements forum is a one-way form of communication for Course Managers and Teachers to communicate with students. Students are not able to reply to, or make, posts in the announcements forum. We recommend you set up at least one forum for students to engage with you and each other, e.g. a "Q&A Forum".

Refer to Ākona te Akoraka | Learn about Learn for guidance on Forum settings. Contact Teaching Quality for support and guidance with forum usage.
