Plan your teaching
The success of a course is affected by decisions made before the first day of class. Careful planning not only makes teaching easier and more enjoyable, it also helps facilitate student learning.
Course design requires consideration of the intended learning outcomes, content, structure and assessment.
Writing learning outcomes is a key component of planning your teaching, they provide a criterion reference for measuring learning or behaviour demonstrated by a student after a specific period of study.
Assessment is important for course design and the learning process, helping to achieve constructive alignment. Effective assessment provides both a measure of learning as well as a motivation and mechanism for learning.
Course delivery approach
As you plan your teaching, a key decision to make is determining the course delivery approach. Delivery options include gamification, flipped classroom, blended learning, hybrid learning and online learning.
Lesson plans are a roadmap to success. Careful planning at the course design stage , including deciding on a course delivery approach, should be followed by thoughtful lesson planning for all classes.
