Introducing your newest Inclusive Education Coordinator
1 June 2023
Kia ora,
I am Filia – My role is Inclusive Education Coordinator, I lead our team in assisting students who have challenges of a disability, illness or injury. I will also be implementing the LU Disability Action Plan which is a tool to ensure tertiary providers avoid discrimination against disabled people, and disabled learners experience better outcomes throughout their education journey.
I'm a Mum of one. Prior to my coming to Lincoln as the Inclusive Education Coordinator, I was employed full-time at the University of Canterbury as an Accessibility Advisor and had been in the role for the last 5 years. Preceding this, I worked for a private education provider supporting students, and prior to that, my career has been in Government departments (Work and Income, ACC and Corrections). I am a people person and passionate making learning environments accessible to all students. I have also been an Oranga Tamariki (CYFS) Caregiver for nine years.
Originally, born and bred in Ashburton (don’t hold that against me) I moved to Christchurch when I was 18 years old to go to the University of Canterbury, where I did my Bachelor of Arts in Art History, Classical Studies, and Gender Studies. I love to travel, and I have had stints living in Brazil and Greece. I identify as Rainbow (she/her) and Greek.
There is a wide range of support available to students to help them reach their potential. Find out more about Inclusive Education at https://ltl.lincoln.ac.nz/advice-and-support/inclusive-education/
